What is Considerate Urbanism?

Considerate Urbanism is a movement, mindset and method for more considerate urban experiences, futures, and behaviours to emerge for people and planet. We achieve this by:

  • Elevating the role of emotion, empathy, lived experience and human behaviour in how we see, make and use urban space.
  • Creating a platform to collaborate, learn and deliver urbanism that cares for people, planet and our future.
  • Unifying diverse people and approaches contributing to kinder, healthier, caring, and more inclusive and equitable places.
  • Exploring the core idea(s) for how we make and live in urban space in future and what key fundamental should drive the "next city" in place of cars and capitalism.
  • Inviting us to think about the city we need to start emerging now to meet the social economic and environmental challenges we face in the future.
  • Accelerating change using tools and methods rooted in lived experience, engagement and diverse expertise

How do we work?

Movement

We connect, support, collaborate and partner with other likeminded organisations and practitioners in a "Coalition of Care" to accelerate the transition to a more economically, socially and environmentally just urban future - the "Next City".

Mindset

We advocate a new model of urbanism that considers a broader spectrum of lifestyles, behaviours and needs in the way we produce and live in cities, to foster a more sustainable future, emotionally connective urban experiences and stronger social fabric.
